About Ernie

Ernie has over 20 years’ experience advocating for taxpayers. Currently, he serves on the leadership of the California Assessors’ Association. He has been a State Certified Property Assessor for over 10 years. Ernie served on the California State Board of Equalization for 20 years and as Chairman for 5 years. During this time Ernie advocated for taxpayers as a member of the Franchise Tax Board.

Ernie’s greatest accomplishments include having authored the “California Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights” legislation and the original Prop 13 Regulations. He is a strong advocate for protecting property right, taxpayers, and proposition 13.

In addition to a distinguished career in public service, Ernie served as a State and Local Tax Partner with Deloitte, LLP. Ernie is a small business owner operating a flower farm in North San Diego County.

Ernie is a long time San Diego resident living with his wife Marilyn where he raised his 4 children and now is the proud grandfather of 8 wonderful grandchildren. He is a Crawford High School graduate and received a B.A. in business administration from San Diego State University. Ernie is a former SDSU cheerleader and member of the rugby squad. Ernie is a proud military veteran. He is a civic leader serving on the Salvation Army Board and has had numerous community roles including on the Board of the MS Society of San Diego and past President of his Kiwanis Club.
